About Dr. Steven Kushner

Hi, I'm Dr. Steven Kushner, creator of Psych Explained.

I've spent more than 20 years teaching psychology to thousands of high school and college students, with one goal: making psychology easy to understand and genuinely interesting.

I earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where I conducted research on memory at the Beckman Institute, followed by a Master's in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois Chicago. Throughout my career, I've taught future educators, consulted on psychology textbooks, presented at national conferences, published research on education, and received the American Educational Research Association's Outstanding Dissertation Award.

I created Psych Explained because I believe psychology is more than memorizing definitions—it's about understanding yourself and the world around you. Today, more than 130,000 students and educators learn with Psych Explained through engaging YouTube lessons, study resources, and online courses designed to make complex topics simple and memorable.
